In April of that year, it announced a partnership with CATL to incorporate its sodium batteries in its new iCAR EV brand.
Changan's sister brand Oshan has a much bigger portfolio, including the X7 EV. It's the company's first pure-electric SUV and was released in August of that year. In addition to working with CATL, Oshan has formed a collaboration with Ford and is exploring smart EV tech through a partnership with Baidu.
SAIC Volkswagen, founded in 1984, is one of the oldest sino-foreign auto partnerships and sells cars in both China and Europe under its Volkswagen and Skoda brands. It is 50/50 owned by Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp, which is a part of the country's biggest traditional carmaker SAIC Motor, and Volkswagen. SAIC VW has three all-electric models: the ID.3 hatchback selling in Europe, the ID.4 available in the U.S., and the recently unveiled ID.6 for the Chinese market.
The other big Chinese carmaker to watch is Guangzhou Automobile Group, which owns the MG and Great Wall brands. Its upcoming EV is the EV20, an all-electric SUV with two seats in the back and four in the front that will compete with the Tesla Model Y. It's expected to go on sale in 2024.
